For the longest time I was like so many others. After putting in a long day, I needed to just unwind. After dinner, I’d just plop down and grab the remote, and spend a few hours absorbed in whatever came on the TV. If there was a game on that I wanted to watch, or one of the network shows that I had become eagerly anticipating, I was a willing viewer. Then, one day I woke up from the hypnotic hold ‘The Box’ held on me.

In 2017, I went ‘Cold Turkey’. I stopped watching TV. One year after shelling out $60 a month for Direct TV, I came to the realization that life was passing me by while I became a vegetable, plopped in my Lazy-Boy, addicted to the mindless blather that passed for ‘entertainment’. The epiphany came after many years of binge watching the tube that was delivered by various means from local broadcast stations, to cable, to satellite.

In today’s digital age, television remains a dominant source of entertainment for many. However, excessive TV consumption can lead to sedentary lifestyles, hinder personal growth, and limit social interactions. It certainly did for me. I was overweight, out of shape, rarely left the house after the job was done for the day… Just wasting away.
