Bentley, King, Bogey, Hannah, and Toby

For most of my 76 years living on this planet, I’ve had dogs. As a kid there were mutts, mixed breeds, rescues from the pound, even abandoned ones from the neighborhoods I lived in.  The last 6 dogs were labs, 3 yellows (Hannah, King and Madison or Squirty as we call her), 2 chocolates (Toby and Bogey), and one black (Bentley).

Madison or Squirty is the last one. She’s almost 5 years old now, and we live together by ourselves, awaiting the sale of our home in Iowa, so we can downsize and begin our exploration of our Country in our travel trailer.

I wrote a song to honor Bentley, had my AI software create the music, vocals and images used in the video on YouTube that I’ll post below.

The other 5 were put down at the end of their lives to end their pain and suffering. I was with them in the vet’s office when the procedure was administered. Each time was gut wrenching, and took days to recover.

Today, I came across a reel on my Facebook Feed. It produced a mini-meltdown for me. I wanted to share it, but can’t due to licensing protections for the poster. The message was that researchers have determined that when the end came, dogs are searching for their ‘person’, and if you aren’t there with them, there is more panic and stress for them. So, I will pray that in spite of the emotional pain you will feel at that moment, be with your four legged friend until they cross over that bridge.
