What’s Cookin’

It’s been a while since we donned the ‘Charlie’s Kitchen’ apron, and whipped up something tasty. Well, we’ve discovered a treasure trove of new recipes that we’re going to showcase here on a regular basis. Today, we’ve decided to move the kitchen out to the campfire and fill the air with the delicious aroma of cinnamon rolls and sausage, it’s what’s called, ‘GOOD MORNING DAWGS’

INGREDIENTS (Makes 8)

8-ct. tube refrigerated cinnamon rolls (the kind that unroll into individual “ropes”)
Icing packet from cinnamon rolls
8 precooked smoked sausage links

DIRECTIONS

Open the tube of cinnamon rolls. Unroll each roll into a long rope; set aside the enclosed frosting.

Push both tines of a long cooking fork through a sausage link and wrap a cinnamon roll rope around each one, stretching slightly and pushing tightly against the sausage; repeat with the remaining sausages and cinnamon rolls.

Hold over dying embers and cook slowly until the rolls are golden brown and no longer doughy inside, turning to brown all sides (patience is key here).

Spread on the set-aside frosting. Easy to eat and no dirty dishes.

Homemade Cinnamon Roll Icing

1 C. powdered sugar
1 T. melted butter
1 tsp. vanilla
2 T. milk, cream, or half & half

Combine all ingredients until smooth. If it’s too thin, add more powdered sugar; too thick, add a little more milk.
